The historic Versilia start to Forte dei Marmi, in the north of Tuscany, and extends to the municipality of Stazzema, in the mountainous hinterland of the Apuan Alps.
There is often a tendency to also include Viareggio, Camaiore and Massarosa in Versilia, but these municipalities are not part of the historic Versilia, but rather of the so-called Versilia enlarged.
